As I was walking past the GPO, I heard an Australian say to a woman who was posting a letter, “Do you by any chance know what the Easter Rising is?”

That is all. Maybe you had to be there.

    Once on a visit to Grasmere I was standing near a sign pointing to Wordsworth’s grave when I heard an American tourist say to her companion, “Who the hell is Wordsworth?”

    That is very good. I’m sure that some part of him would be pleased to reflect that he was right about the kind of people the nasty railway would bring.
