Unsafe System of Work

Have you ever filled a hot water bottle with boiling water while reading a book (which you are holding in one hand) and holding the bottle against the work surface with your mid-riff? I advise strongly against.

I agree. I severely burnt my hand last winter, when filling my bottle and speaking with my son at the same time. Ouch !…

But you can read and brush your teeth at the same time, no problem.

Place the hot water bottle on the counter and hold it upright (book can then be laid flat beyond it). Fill mostly full of hot water. Let the hot water bottle droop down a bit until the water appears at the neck and insert the stopper (you may need to break off reading at this point). Worst case scenario is you get boiling water on your book – but better than on your hands. This idea of squeezing the hot water bottle while you fill it is a recipe for disaster.
