Cycling Etiquette

3 December, 2015
Posted in: Dublin, Ireland, Middle Child, Twins, Youngest Child

Yesterday I walked to school with the boys as usual pushing my bike along. I was walking on the pavement pushing my bike on the edge of the road when a man in lycra sped past me and said, “If you’re not cycling, get out of the cycle lane!” Should you push your bike on the path? It is very annoying to find cyclists annoying. I am on their side. Sigh.

I suppose it depends of the width of the pavement vs. the width of the cycle lane and whoever you’re going to inconvenience most but it would be a pain to keep chopping and changing.

To be fair, at that point, pavement is quite wide but I always thought etiquette was to keep pavement for pedestrians (must confess that I have not always observed this but I did think that it was the right thing to do).
