Thought for the Day

Me: When the children leave home, I wonder what we’ll do at the weekends?
Him: Hmm. I don’t know.
Me: We could go to mass in the pro-Cathedral and hear the Palestrina choir on Sunday. And then we could go for a nice walk in the mountains somewhere. [Pause] Why didn’t we do that kind of thing before we had children?
Him: It’s possible that your views have changed. Maybe in your 20s mass and a walk was not your idea of a fun Sunday.

I often wonder what we’ll do when ours have left – it’s a while yet (youngest is nine, oldest 17) but it is good to be prepared. I imagine I’ll be so worn out that sitting in front of the fire and watching day time tv will be quite appealing. Maybe I’ll do some embroidery and Richard no doubt will be studying the Guardian front to back.

I am enjoying your daily posts, sneaking a quick blog read into my busy day is a secret pleasure.

God, it sounds quite peaceful, doesn’t it? Am glad you are liking the blog, thank you.

Mr Waffle will start brewing beer and you will be working on your novel.

Whatever you do, don’t take up cycle campaigning … but the devil does find work for idle hands so don’t count on a peaceful life

The maddest thing I did this evening was drink tea after 7pm.

Will make no difference such is the exhaustion

I see retirement may bring many activities: beer, novel writing, cycle campaigning, tea drinking (possibly that last is a suggestion for now…).
