Annual Haircut

24 January, 2016
Posted in: Dublin, Ireland

I got my hair cut last week. My hairdresser says that in 32 years of cutting hair, he has never met anyone whose hair grows more slowly than mine. I had my last haircut in December 2014.

In the 13 months since it was last cut, it had grown out to look like this (including slightly askew glasses because now I need them to watch the television, sigh).

A bit unruly. I wanted the hairdresser to cut it shorter than he did but he resisted. I think that, sadly, he thinks that I am too old for very short hair. He referred cheerily to the fringe he was cutting as “nature’s botox”. My hairdresser is  very trendy so I think the cut might be a bit fashion forward.  Or at least I thought so when I emerged from the hairdresser.  I only took this picture after I had washed it myself.  Is it just me, or does it look a bit early Aha?

Well, it has a year to grow out, anyhow.

Very nice. No A-Ha there. Can I be annoying and tell you that I also really liked it in the first pic – sort of jaw length? To be further annoying can I complain that my hair grows so fast I am constantly behind on haircuts? About a cm a month. *preens*

A cm a month? That is amazing. I really like it when mine’s short because it dries so quickly….

Au contraire, I feel a lot of women today wear their hair too long as they get older – but what would I know? Of course, gamine as you are, you can take any style.

I had that haircut in the nineties. People kept calling me ‘sir’. Now I just don’t get my hair cut at all and it has stopped getting any longer and I no longer have to wait until I’m about to go somewhere interesting on holiday so that I have something to talk to hairdressers about. At some point, the fashion police will round me up and make me either get my hair cut or issue me with 17 cats.

No one has called me ‘sir’ yet, on the other hand, I already have a cat so perhaps I can move rapidly to the no haircut end of things.
