Is it November? It is.
Am I going to post every day? Yes, I am.
Is NaBloPoMo still a thing? Who can say – but it will be here.
While gearing yourself up for a month of fascinating content, do please admire my festive Halloween decor.

And will we have a close up of the autumn wreath that I made myself using a hanger, ribbons, leaves and cuttings from the garden? Yes, yes, I think we will. To be honest, it made for a stressful week as it had to be regularly refreshed with leaves from the garden as the old ones wilted or blew away but I felt very crafty, as is seasonally appropriate.
I had cute little pumpkin nightlights and my entire decorative gourd collection on the mantelpiece last night and I was extremely pleased. Sadly it did not photograph well due to glare from 12 nightlights (judge away) so you will just have to imagine gourd perfection. May I yet again refer you to this article which is now an essential element of the season and describes my sentiments admirably.
The easy criticism of someone who does nothing for Hallowe’en…the pumpkins were not…carved? Many years ago, when my young people were very young, I bought some special tools which made it easier.
Even longer ago when I was young and pumpkins didn’t exist in my part of England, we carved Swedes – the vegetable rather than the people – it was not really satisfactory?
I know. I opted out of carving a few years ago because a) it’s very difficult and b) my next door neighbours (just out of shot) have a daughter who went to art school and the most amazing carved pumpkins every year and I felt…outclassed.
I cannot imagine the difficulty of carving a swede. I mean they’re almost impossible to cut up for cooking. The old Irish way was a turnip (also a swede? certainly also impossible to cut up) and they look terrifying.
I think the swede/turnip conundrum is intense. A Scottish friend insists what I call a swede she has as a turnip. Completely get being outclassed on the pumpkin carving..I always did a very ordinary level.
A complex problem requiring multilateral negotiations.
Hooray for November and NaBloPoMo
