Youngest Child

Faith in Humanity Restored

Some time ago, Michael wrote to the Science Gallery thus:

I bought the box with your bubbles and I thought that it would have coloured bubbles but they were ordinary bubbles. I mean I can get bubbles from everyday things. I spent €4.50 on it and I am very disappointed.

From

Michael
(Aged 7 and a bit)

Some time later well after he had forgotten that he sent the message, they replied:

Hi Michael

I am very sorry it has taken us so long to respond to your complaint.

I understand that you are disappointed with our Colour Bubble Lab. I would be very happy for you to come in and replace it with something else of the same value. Hopefully you will find something much better this time. If you can’t get in easily please feel free to look on our website and pick something new. If you email me the details I will send it on to your address.

I hope this is satisfactory.

Kind Regards

There’s customer service!

More Religion

Last Sunday, Mr. Waffle didn’t bring any religious books for the boys to read at mass. He felt that they were old enough to listen to the actual service. This brought some challenges. Michael, listening to the creed, evidently for the first time asked “Did they just say ‘descended into Hell’?” “Um, yes, we did, shh now.” “But” said Michael, all indignant, “he’s the good guy, why would he to Hell? Was he visiting friends?”

Something Has Gone Very Wrong

Me: Can we move this pile of cuddly toys from the middle of the bedroom.
Daniel: NO!
Me: Why not?
Daniel: Michael and I have decided that we don’t want to be Christians any more and that pile of cuddly toys will be our god instead.

Appealing New Local Restaurant

The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the prices very reasonable – though cash only, no cards. The waiters were attentive though clearly new to the job. So far, they have only been open for lunch once and, with return to school looming, I fear it may be Christmas before they are back in business.

Michael: If I have to choose between a museum and a walk, do you know what I choose?
Me: What do you choose?
Him: A museum.
Me [mildly pleased]: Really, why?
Him: There’s at least a chance that there will be a shop in a museum.

That’s My Boy

We had the American priest again on Sunday. So impassioned and enthusiastic was his delivery that the boys, briefly, paid attention. “Who among us,” he asked [rhetorically, I imagine], “can say that we truly don’t care what others think of us?” Michael instantly sat up straight in his seat and put his hand in the air.
