New student trainee: Dreadful, I was working on an essay.
Me: On what?
He elaborates.
I offer my considered and somewhat divergent views.
Him: Well that’s an empirical paradigm whereas I am working with a theoretical model.
Ah students.
Empirical? Ahh. You mean suck it & see.
I’m with the student. I am not bothered about empiricism, (I can never remember what it means, though chaOtic’s definition might be the one that sticks. Only time will tell). But paradigm is such a lovely word. It’s the silent g. It does it for me every time. Poignant is nowhere near as good – the oi in the middle lets it down.
Paradigm.
